Introduction: In our freshmen P.E. class we are trying something new wiht our students. This activity will enable students to use physical fitness and technology. The students in our class will be playing basketball while they keep track of their heart rate and statistics. This will allow students to have a fun competiton while they learn about their heart rate as they exercise.


1. Take heart rate before, during, after activity.
2. Keep track of statistics
3. Complete spread sheet of stats(number of passes, shots, and makes) and heart rate.

  • Make an even number of teams with 3 students per team.
  • Two teams will play against each other at one goal.
  • The teams line up on opposite sidelines arm's length between each player.
  • One player from each team has a basketball.
  • The player with the ball is the team's shooter.
  • The two shooters, one from each team, meet at the top of the 3-point line (or the free throw line) and check the ball to begin play.
  • After the shooters check the basketball, they must pass to each person on their team one time before they can begin shooting.
  • The first shooter to make a basket scores one (1) point for his/her team.
  • Good Sportmanship, call your own fouls. No freethrows.

After this activity, students will be able to monitor their heart rate while engaging in a physical acitivity and also learn how to use Microsoft Excel for spreadsheets.
