Introduction

Your body is the vessel with which you get everywhere you go and do everything you do. It is important to learn how to keep your body healthy and fit the best way possible. Three ways to accomplish this are by learning about 3 important lifestyle choices: exercise, nutrition/diet, and personal hygiene. Learning to use different websites and interactive tools on the internet will start you on your way to having a healthier and happier life.

Tasks

  1. Go to the link for My Food Pyramid and complete one day menu for yourself using the menu planner under interactive tools.

"The 2005 Food Guide Pyramid." http://www.hard24get.com/food/food.htm

Step 1: Go to the My food pyramid activity .
Step 2: On the left hand subject tab under interactive tools, click on menu planner.
Step 3: Fill out all of the necessary information for yourself and click submit.
Step 4: Click on the link: For your current weight.
Step 5: On the left hand search bar try typing in a variety of foods and fit them into your daily food menu. Once you pick a food, click add (notice that this will add the food to your menu and also show the servings that you need).
Step 6: Once you meet your daily food goals and complete your menu, print your page (notice that your daily limits should be in the green target area).
You are finished!!! Now try to see if you can stick to this meal plan for one day. By following your menu, you can eat healthier every day!!external image moz-screenshot-1.png

2. Read the CYH (Children, Youth, and Women's Health Service) web page about kids' personal hygiene and take the fill-in-the-gap quiz afterward. Also, read Ben's advice at the bottom and write down your reason for wanting to be clean and one piece of advice about hygiene.

Step 1: Visit and carefully read the information in Personal Hygiene for Kids
Step 2: Once you finish reading and think you have a good understanding of what you read, click on the "Gap-fill game" link at the bottom of the page
Step 3: Read the instructions and fill in the blanks. Remember that if you ask for hints or clues, your score will not be as high!
Step 4: Print your result by pressing and holding "CTRL" and pressing "p" on the keyboard. Click "OK" on the menu that appears.
Step 5: On the printed piece of paper, write down your reason for practicing good personal hygiene and a piece of advice for other students about hygiene.
Step 6: You are done with Task 2!

3. Follow the link given and read about what different physical activities you can do for different situations (when it is just you, when it is hot, etc.) After, come up with your own exercise ideas for "when it is time for recess"

Step 1: Visit and carefully read It's time to playand 5 components of fitness
Step 2: With a partner, think of an exercise or activity that can be done on the playground or blacktop during recess. Remember to make sure that the activity needs more than one of the components you read about (for example, a race to the top of the jungle gym is a muscular exercise and aerobic exercise).
Step 3: Open Microsoft Word and type your idea for "When it is time for recess" and print it
Step 4: You are done! We will put all the ideas together to make a recess obstacle course!
