  • Introduction

Everyday you throw away items into the trash. So do your family members, friends, neighbors and just about everyone on the planet. There are a total of 6 billion people on Earth (290 million in the United States) who regularly throw things away. Since so many people are throwing things away, we end up having a lot of trash. This creates a big problem, with an endless amount of questions which we must find ways to answer. How does trash impact our planet? Can we continue to live such a carefree lifestyle? What happens to the trash once it leaves our house? Are there ways to improve our planet? Each piece of trash that is thrown away affects not only the planet but also each human living on it. Through this webquest you will research more about reducing, reusing and recycling that will lead you to make a difference in the world.
  • Tasks

    • For a week you will try to reduce the amount of water you use during daily activities such as, taking a shower and washing your hands. You will blog about your experiences with reducing water and discuss the pros and cons you went through each day. You must post at least 5 blog entries.
    • Create a 3 minute commercial promoting recycling which should include materials that can be recycled. You will break up into groups of 5 students, and will be assigned different roles for the production of the commercial. The roles are as follows: director, writer, costume designer, music editor, and prop manger. The commercials will be posted on YouTube and viewed during class.
    • With a partner, come up with creative ways to reuse an everyday object. An example of this would be a jelly jar, which can be used to store money or other items. You can use Prezi or Photo Story to present your project to the class. The presentation must contain at least 4 uses for the object you pick. Each use of the object must be accompanied by a description of how it is reused and a picture.
